Compassion: An Introduction to Buddhist Thought

Janet Von Talge provides an overview of Buddhist philosophy and thought, and explores how compassion-focused Buddhist meditation deepens our connection with others and affects our abilities to cultivate a sense of compassion for ourselves and others.

Mrs. Von Talge has been practicing Buddhist meditation for 20 years. She is ordained and teaches in the Triratna Buddhist order.  She also practices with the Tibetan-based Natural Dharma Fellowship.  Mrs. Von Talge is retired from a 45-year career as a Registered Nurse.  Her spiritual focus is compassion and death and dying.

This complimentary program is to open everyone, and includes instruction and practice of meditation. The Woodbury Meditation & Yoga Center (WMYC) is located at 122 West Side Road in Woodbury, CT. Everyone is welcome to come earlier, at 5:00 pm, for a complimentary sample yoga class.

WMYC is a not-for-profit educational institution offering meditation, yoga, tai chi/qigong and a variety of programs weekly, as well as complimentary Sunday evening events including meditation instruction.  WMYC welcomes individuals to try a class for free and see first-hand how yoga changes lives. The Center welcomes cancer patients/survivors, caregivers, veterans and others in need of assistance, and offers free or reduced-cost classes.
