The language of mantra, words of power subtly attuned to the matrix of creation, Sanskrit opens the door to universal wisdom encoded in yoga and in the original works of the ancient rishis (seers), such as the Vedas, the Gita and Yoga Sutras. Particpants access the heart of the Sanskrit language, learning to pronounce, read and resonate with the sacred sounds of the alphabet.
During this weekend immersion in the Sanskrit language, students also discover and remove blocks to learning in general, as well as experiencing the joy unlocked from the vibrations created by chanting the Sanskrit alphabet and syllables.
Instructor Janaki Pierson has been joyfully teaching Sanskrit for over 25 years, based on the method modeled on Patanjali's yoga sutras developed by Vyass Houston, founder of the American Sanskrit Institute. She was one of the first of Mr. Houston's students to be certified in this method in the early 1990's. She is also co-founder, director and meditation instructor at the Woodbury Meditation & Yoga Center, since its inception in 1984.
"My experience with Beginners’ Sanskrit Immersion was rewarding and generous in giving me a fundamental knowledge of this fascinating language. Janaki Pierson is an excellent teacher in covering an introduction to how we formulate sounds, pronounce the many characters, and read various short phrases. This is a rare opportunity to be introduced to the rudiments and understanding of Sanskrit by an experienced and sensitive teacher. I recommend this course to anyone who is interested in deepening their appreciation of language and culture." -Peter, student in the March 2017 Sanskrit Immersion Weekend
"I enjoyed every moment, and cannot wait for Part 2! Many thanks to Janaki for sharing her knowledge of this intelligent, powerful and often mysterious ancient language with us. Highly recommend this workshop to anyone interested in languages/linguistics, mantras and chanting, or deepening their yoga and meditation practices." -Nina, student in the March 2017 Sanskrit Immersion Weekend
